Essential Oils For Yoga Practice

Essential oils are useful before, during and after yoga practice because of their many benefits for the emotions and the body. You can improve your yoga practice by using essential oils with certain aromas that create an atmosphere that you are looking for. Essential oils can help with reducing anxious feelings, promote feelings of calm and emotional balance and support feelings of focus, making them extremely useful during several stages of a yoga practice. In addition to mental focus and emotional awareness essential oils can be used to promote feelings of clear airways and easy breathing.
Essential oils to promote focus:
  • basil, douglas fir, frankincense and spearmint
To support clear breathing:
  • Cardamom, Eucalyptus, Melaleuca and Peppermint
To support relaxing and reduce stress:
  • Cedarwood, Frankincense, Lavender, Petitgrain, Ylang Ylang
For invigorating practice, diffuse:
  • Cypress, Lime, Peppermint and Wild Orange

RECIPE: Yoga Mat Spray

3/4 cup distilled water
1/4 cup of vinegar
5 drops of lavender oil
3 drops of Melaleuca oil
Combine all ingredients in a glass spray bottle, shake until combined and apply on the mat. Dry with paper towels. Do a spot check first to make sure your mat doesn’t get affected by the spray since every mat is different.

Uses

  • The perfect yoga poses to pair with doTERRA Anchor’s aroma are Seated Meditation, Seated Twist, and Bhu Mudra (one hand on the heart, the other on the Earth).

  • Use doTERRA Arise while practicing the following yoga poses: standing arms high, standing side stretch, and Half Moon.

Directions for Use

Aromatic use: Apply several drops to diffusing jewelry, natural dolomite, or lava diffusing rocks.

Topical use: Apply one to two drops to desired area. See additional precautions below.
