Top 5 Essential Oils
What are the top 5 essential oils you should have on hand at all times? Essential oils are such a huge world to get into that I like to break down just a few of the most important essential oils to have on hand so that you are prepared for almost anything. Here are the top 5 essential oils you should have in your cabinet.
1. Lavender
Lavender is one of my most favorite essential oils because it’s so versatile and so calming. It is great for burns, cuts and other skin issues. It’s amazing for relaxing and and easing feelings of tension. For restful sleep diffuse 5 drops of essential oils or apply 2-3 drops on the back of your neck with a carrier oil. You can also use a drop on your pillow or blanket. You can also add it to a bath or in epsom salts for a relaxing and soothing bath. Just a drop or two of lavender added to your body or face cream is also a way to enjoy the relaxing aroma of lavender. For occasional head discomfort, try inhaling lavender essential oil for a few minutes or by adding 2 drop of lavender and 2 drops of peppermint on the back of your neck, diluted with a carrier oil.
2. Tea Tree
Tea tree oil (Melaluca) is another great one for skin issues. Tea tree oil is great for nail fungus, burns and cuts. Do not take tea tree oil internally. Tea tree oil is great topical treatment for breakouts and acne. It can also be added to a shampoo or conditioner for keeping dandruff at bay. You can make a counter top spray with water, vinegar, lemon and tea tree essential oils. You can apply tea tree directly on the nails to keep them healthy.
3. Frankincense
Frankincense is one of my absolute favorite essential oils. The aroma is so soothing and calming. The history of frankincense dates back to thousands of years and was mentioned frequently throughout the Bible. Frankincense was also one of the three gifts given by the wise men when baby Jesus was born. Frankincense is said to be the “king of oils”. Frankincense is great for supporting the immune system and for lifting the mood. It’s also great for the skin for anti-aging and wrinkles. I personally love the use the doTERRA Immortelle essential oil blend that is made for the skin and it has frankincense in it. Applying it on the face everyday feels so relaxing and grounding and makes my skin feels so good. The products is very concentrated so I always use another oil as a carrier oil to mix it with.
4. Lemon
Lemon essential oil is a great mood boosting, grease busting and overall just a great essential oil to have on hand. I like to use 1-2 drops in my water to keep me drinking more water during the day because the taste is so much better. You can diffuse lemon for instant freshness in the house. You can also inhale lemon essential oil for a quick pick me up in the afternoon. Lemon essential oil is one of those oils that I’m never without and go through at least a bottle every month.
5.Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus is an amazing essential oil for cleaning as well as for sinus and respiratory support. I like to combine 2 drops of eucalyptus with 2 drops of peppermint, mixed with carrier oil and apply on the chest if I’m not feeling well. It’s also great applied on the bottoms of the feet. You can diffuse eucalyptus also along with frankincense for immune boosting and mood boosting.
