doTERRA is the largest essential oil company in the world and has been growing year after year since being founded in 2008. In the past ten years, doTERRA has grown more than Apple as a company. You can tell the difference in the quality if you take a drop of doTERRA essential oil and another company and put a drop on your hands. The doTERRA essential oil will disappear right away because it’s pure therapeutic grade meaning it doesn’t have any additives so it will disappear into the air right away. Now take another brand’s essential oil and put a drop on your hands and see how quickly the drop disappears. If it lingers on your hands, the essential oil isn’t certified pure therapeutic grade essential oil. An essential oil sold at the store can state 100% pure on the bottle but only contain 25% essential oil and the rest is fillers and additives. If you have had a reaction to an essential oil before, it can be due to the additives added to it and not necessarily the oil itself.
doTERRA essential oils are designed for all aromatherapy applications including aromatic, internal and topical. The doTERRA essential oil bottles directly indicate what methods are safe to use with what oils. The oil can only be used internally if the bottle has supplemental facts. For example, as a trained, certified essential oil coach, I know that not all essential oils can be taken internally and certain oils should be avoided if pregnant. Internal use of essential oils should always be done with a professional because certain essential oils can interfere with medications and there are certain oils that should be avoided if pregnant or nursing, however doTERRA makes essential oil usage easy by noting on the bottles the different ways the particular oil can be used. If you do use an essential oil internally, only use doTERRA essential oils and only the ones that have supplemental facts. You only need 1 drop to start and please use caution and discuss with your doctor if you are pregnant and/or have an existing medical condition. How do you know what essential oils are safe and why would you choose one brand of essential oils over another?
There are several different levels of quality for essential oils. If a bottle states 100% pure essential oils it can be anywhere from 7-25% essential oils and rest fillers and additives because there is no regulation on essential oils. All the bottle has to have is 25% essential oil to be called pure which is really misleading the customer since the bottle mostly likely is not pure. doTERRA essential oils are certified therapeutic quality and go through very strict quality controls before the essential oil batch is released to market. Many natural food companies, super markets and online companies now also sell essential oils and there are so many companies to choose from. If you do a search on amazon for essential oils, you’ll also see many different companies pop up. You can also find oils at Target and Walmart and other big stores.
Please note that the oils sold in these stores are not pure and are definitely not therapeutic grade which means they should never be taken internally for example. When you are using essential oils on yourself and/or your children and around your pets, you want to make sure you are only using the highest quality essential oils to minimize side effects, potential allergic reactions and other potential health problems. The same goes with diffusing essential oils. You don’t want to infuse low quality essential oils in the air that you are breathing just like you wouldn’t want to be using low quality candles with possible toxins in them.
