My Husband’s Bell’s Palsy Journey
A few years ago, right before Thanksgiving, my husband was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. I immediate sprang into action and removed all processed foods from his diet and had him do a whole lifestyle change. He was already eating healthy at home but sometimes during the day at work, he would resort to fast food.
With his mouth drooping, he was not able to eat that well but whenever he did eat, I made sure it was clean foods such as salads and lots of wild Alaskan Salmon. I would also make smoothies for breakfast with organic fruit and protein powder. I bought smoked Salmon from Costco and made salads at home. I just bought a bag of already made salad mix from Trader Joes and added organic tomatoes and other vegetables as well as the smoked salmon from Costco. The salad dressing was only organic, extra virgin olive oil and splash of vinegar. For dinner I would cook fish or organic chicken and some meat here and there with steamed vegetables.
My husband was prescribed anti-inflammatory medication by his doctor and he also received laser treatments from a chiropractor friend of ours, Dr. David Atencio, 2-3 times a week. We had to tape his eye shut at night because his eye muscles on the side that was affected didn’t work. I also researched essential oils and since I had them at home already, I decided to add them to support his body.
I used the following doTERRA essential oils on him. Helichrysum, Frankincense, Thyme, Clove, Aromatouch, Lemongrass, Patchouli, Bergamot and Peppermint. I would mix about a teaspoon of carrier oil (fractionated coconut oil) and add a few drops of the essential oil and apply along his spine and neck, one oil at a time, starting with the Helicrysum and going in that order. I did this every other day, once a day. I put together a kit for you here if you are interested in purchasing these oils as well. You’ll also get doTERRA wholesale account for 1 year which will help you save money on these oils at 25% savings. There are no ongoing commitments or purchase requirements. You can just shop online and get products shipped directly to your home whenever you want to.
After about 4-6 weeks his muscles started to return slowly. He had a lot of twitching on his face and he started to gain control of the muscles around his eye as well. He got better fairly quickly and he has no long term effects. His face shows no signs of Bell’s Palsy today.
We don’t know exactly what is was that helped him get better so quickly and with no long term effects but I wanted to share with you what we did in hopes of helping others. If you are interested in purchasing the oils I used, I put together a kit for you here.
