Keeping Kids Healthy During Seasonal Threats
As a mom I know that there is nothing worse than having your child not feeling well. I want to share with you what I personally do in our home to help keep our kids healthy. Germs are sometimes unavoidable but there are some things you can do to lessen the odds by supporting the immune system.
1. Nutrition & Supplements
I try and keep the nutrition in our home as clean as possible. I shop at Trader Joes and Target and choose organic options as much as possible. Lots of vegetables, fruit, organic chicken and fish with occasional red meat. I cook family meals gluten free also I have to be gluten free and so it one of our children. Sometimes it’s hard to get all the needed nutrients despite eating healthy so I like to use whole food supplements to support the body. Omega 3s are great for supporting the growing brains. We eat wild salmon regularly but I also like to give my children Omega 3 supplements. Probiotics are also important for supporting the gut health. Healthy gut helps to keep the immune system working properly so I focus on giving my children probiotics and having them eat high quality, organic yogurts regularly.
2. Essential Oils For Immune Support
I always make sure to have certain essential oils on hand to help support the immune system. My children also know how to use there essential oil roller bottles. I always have the Breathe and Onguard essential oil roller bottles on hand. I apply the Onguard oil blend on the bottoms of the feet and the Breathe on the chest and/or on the bottoms of the feet. I’ll also diffuse the oil versions of Breathe and Onguard if needed. Onguard is great to diffuse in the home regularly to keep germs are bay. I also use the Onguard cleaning concentrate, hand soap and hand sanitizing spray to keep the surfaces and hands germ free without chemicals. I always recommend having the top 10 essential oils on hand to cover everything you need to keep the family healthy. The Healthy Home kit is great because it also comes with a diffuser in addition to the top 10 oils that include the Breathe and Onguard oils mentioned. If my children are feeling under the weather, I’ll also add lemon, thyme, melaleuca and frankincense for the mix. All these oils are included in the top 10 kit as well. doTERRA has a new special essential oil kit for children. You can find the new essential oil kit here. The kit comes with specially made essential oil roller bottles ready to be used without having to worry about dilution. The kit also comes with flashcards that explains what oils is good for what use and how to use them.
3. Sleep
Getting enough sleep is important to keep the little bodies healthy. I like to use essential oils to create a nice and relaxing environment in the kids bedrooms. My two favorite oils are lavender and serenity essential oil blend. I like to diffuse Serenity in the home at night time for calming environment and also in the kids bedrooms. I like to switch between the Serenity blend and lavender. These two essential oils are my favorite for supporting sleep. Lavender is part of the top 10 essential oil kit also.
